Silversmithing Museum

It is situated in the castle of Ioannina in the western bastion of the north-eastern acropolis called “Its Kale”.

The museum functions under the responsibility of the Piraeus Bank Group of Cultural Foundation.

It is a technological museum which exhibits the technology of silversmithing during the pre-industrial period. It is also a regional museum since it represents the history of silversmithing in Epirus. The permanent exhibits of the museum represent the post- Byzantine period from the 15th century onwards but there are also some exhibits from previous time periods.

The aim of the museum is to preserve knowledge about the art of silversmithing in Epirus, to inform the broad public and last to show the correlation of this art with the characteristics of that era and the society.

Opening hours: 1st March-15th October: 10:00-18:00, 16th October-28th February: 10:00-17:00.

Closed: Tuesdays, 1st January, 17th January (local patronal feast), Good Friday (until 12:00 noon), Easter Sunday, 1st May, 15th August, 25-26th December.
